Obviously I'm delighted that Ultima Online made it to the list :-)

old skool 8)

i've been gaming since 1980 here's a list of all the computers/games consoles i've had over the years

Sinclair ZX81 (1K memory!!!!!!)
Intellivision console
Sinclair Spectrum 48k (the best games ever were made for this machine)
Acorn Electron
Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga
3DO
Sega mega drive
Playstation 1
Playstation 2
Xbox
Xbox360
Wii
Playstation3

i still have my original spectrum & C64 and they still work

I never subcribe to the theory that consoles etc are just for kids, gaming is a form of entertainment in my opinion, just the same as tv, music & reading

Impressive list Nikina!

I would have loved to have many of those as a kid, but being a girl I just comformed to societies expectations of what little girls and little boys are supposed to ask for christmas and it never crossed my mind to ask for such things. The closest I came to owning a console was this:

I still have it, box and all and it still works :).

Our neighbors kids had a table top mini arcade PacMan! I used to spend all my allowances on playing Pacman at the arcade and dreamt of being able to play it "for free" right in the comfort of my own home. I was probably around 12 at the time. But I never dared ask for that either, thinking it'd be too expensive.

As some of you may remember, I'm having a bit of a nostalgic phase right now in my life and I finally fulfilled my dream, this baby is being shipped to me as we speak! (bought it off Ebay)

oh my!, the old 'mini' arcade machines, i had completely forgotton they ever existed, it brings back memories of the last day at school before holidays when you could bring toys in. when one or two lads brought those machines in it was wow!!!!!

I guess your right about girls toys/boys toys Bramb, but as kids my folks never had too much money and i really wanted a spectrum for christmas so in order to get it, it had to be a joint present shared with 2 of my sisters. To this day all of my sisters (aged 34, 38 & 41) all still play computer or console games

and that image of pacman has put the theme music into my head lol

...what about Pong? :P

Seriously, I think that this has been the most honest and serious pc game top ten lists I've seen to date. The reviewer remembered to take other games pre-dating the ones on the list into account and say why he chose like he did. He also mentioned the reasoning behind every choice which is what many other top ten lists of this kind lacks.

I've seen quite a few of those and they almost always "forget" something because the reviewer is either too young or too biased. This list I can respect.....but he still forgot the racing games. :P

That's a pretty good list but I think it's rather a top 10 most influential games list than simply top 10 best games. That being said, most influential is a pretty good standard by which to tell which games are good or not. Some of the best games ever in my opinion have not been that influential at all, such as Deus Ex or MDK (and in fact, MDK was a commercial nightmare). Some record best-selling games are also missing, such as WoW and The Sims, but the reviewer seemingly preferred to go back to the games that started it all, before these games existed (Wizardry, Ultima Online, Sim City).

Also agree that racing games are sorely lacking!

Thanks Bram :)
