I go through phases and tend to have an album on loop in my car for about a week, at which point I begin to get sick of it and change it.

Love the old Prodigy stuff, Fat of the Land is probably my favourite album.
The Killers are wonderful, as are Radiohead, Kings of Leon and Razorlight.
Ooh and Jakatta, Groove Armada, Royksopp...
And The Who, Foo Fighters, RHCP..

And and and!

Oh I just like everything.

Except rap.
Keep that stuff away from me.

When I play I only listen to WoW background sounds. I don't like to play without the sound. With other games it's the same.

But what I listen to when I really want to listen to music or possibly sing along is: Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Nightwish, The 69 Eyes, HIM and Apulanta (Finnish rock band, well actually four of them are Finnish). And those are just my biggest favorites at the moment. I like metal and rock in general. It all started when I was 11 and started to listen to KISS. And I'm still a big fan of theirs too.

Sometimes I do listen to more peaceful music too. Then Norah Jones is nice. But yeah, mostly it must be loud and to have weird lyrics.

Hmmm, my iTunes playlist is somewhat varied, but anything from In Flames, Marylin Manson, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Nightwish , to stuff like The Moody Blues, U2, OMD and 80's pop. Also some classical in there, even a bit of Andrew Lloyd Webber (damn Cats being so good!!).

Also like to listen to Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds musical alot when I play.

Like many others, I listen to the in-game sound when playing WoW. Once I log in, I like to be locked in.

Away from WoW I listen to a lot of classical music. Henry Purcell is a favourite; also, the 19th century romantic period (Elgar, Debussy). In terms of modern-day music, experimental techno such as Autechre floats my boat. Venetian Snares is good too. I also like to listen to what Brian Eno refers to as "unfinished music" - otherwise known as "ambient" - like Steve Roach and Stars of the Lid. Takes you to a peaceful inner place.

I like the WoW music, but I will be developing a dedicate playlist when I get bored with it.

But for now, the in-game Music and my wife's many requests for cups of tea (she can't make cups of tea, I even got an AFK Macro on my hotbar for it. Although she now asks 'Are you in a safe place at the moment' (meaning aggro free zone), so it's all good.

It all comes down to the mood and whats going on in the game.

I listen to a wide range of music. Favorites are Roger Waters, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Kings of Leon, Muse, Band of Horses, Pearl Jam. I also enjoy ambiente music when I am in mood for that like Enigma, Era and Enya. Now and then the only thing that really gets me going are something really noisy like Norwegain Dimmu Borgir.

The music in WOW has changed quite a bit since Cata, and there is a lot of nice music around Azeroth in my opinion.

I love the wow music. It's always on and played in loop. Only one I used to turn off was the Gnomeregan one.

My favourite before Cata was Sillithus/Tanaris at night. It might be changed now as so many zones now have new music. Also really like the starter zone music of the blood elfs. Zangarmarsh was great for when you have a hang-over. Very soothing :P

I know this is an old thread but I'm new here so I hope I'm excused. Also because I love listening to music. (edit, oh it's been reawakened recently, my bad :))

Right now I listen mostly to the ingame music because it's new but what I've been listening to for the last few years is:

- God is an Astronaut (If your music taste is anything like mine, they will blow you away. Here is one of the best songs I've ever heard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDE6k4RsG50)
- Boards of Canada
- Nine Inch Nails
- Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
- Depeche Mode
- Moby
- Rammstein
- Ólafur Arnalds - Neoclassical, from Iceland like I am, hauntingly beautiful tracks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC3af6_eGXI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6u5D-5LWSg. Also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYIfiQlf ... TkB-kZm3vy - a very original video)
- Korn (first albums, when they had raw emotional power)
- Marilyn Manson
- The Prodigy
- Deftones and Team Sleep (Chino's sideproject, mellower but still edgy)
- Tori Amos
- Sigur rós
- Ensími (icelandic group)
- Godspeed You! Black Emperor
- Explosions in the Sky
- Mogwai
- Ennio Morricone (I never tire of the spaghetti western tracks)

I'm probably leaving out something, I like a lot of music, and I also listen to quite a few podcasts. If you're on last.fm I have the username snugget, feel free to befriend me there.

I love WoW music as well. Blizzard has created a really top-notch soundtrack for the game, (and they have really gone to town with Cataclysm) so I'm more than satisfied with it. Old favorite is the old Orgrimmar theme and the ambient soundscapes in the Draenei starting zones are quite often stunningly beautiful.

However, outside WoW I listen to quite a wide range of music. Practically anything goes, (Rap and Hip-hop tends to leave me cold, though) from Punk to Prog Rock, from Folk To Death Metal, from Indian classical to some pretty experimental post-rock. Here's some stuff I've been listening quite a lot lately:

-Devin Townsend
-Strapping Young Lad
-Rush
-Current 93
-O.Children
-John Coltrane
-Miles Davis
-Joy Division
-Wire
-Godspeed you! Black Emperor
-Scott Walker (Quite propably my favorite singer of all time)
-Yes
-Steve Hackett
-The Tangent
-Sa Dingding (A chinese composer and multi-instrumentalist. Incredibly talented woman)
-Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
-Afro-Celt Sound System
-Living Colour
-Nick Drake
-Jackie Leven
-Shearwater
-Monster Magnet

...amongst others. Music is pretty important part of my life.

Lately I have been listening to the soundtracks from "Bram stokers Dracula" and "the fearless vampire hunters" both by Wojciech Kilar.

Other WoW favourites include:

Slayer - all albums up to Seasons in the abyss

Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal and Within realm of a dying sun

Fields of the nephilim- all of their albums

In Slaughter Natives - Enter now the world

Type O Negative - October rust

Cocteau Twins - Treasure

The soundtrack from Diablo 1 & 2

And much more old stuff from my younger days

I'm a big fan of Dead Can Dance and Fields of the Nephilim as well. Can't really name any favorites as I like them all, but lately I've been listening quite a lot Nephilim's "Mourning Sun" and DCD's "Spiritchaser." Great stuff!
