This may well be true.

The colour red communicates energy, power and excitement. Psychological studies report that people surrounded by red colour often breath faster and have a higher heartbeat. You use red when you want to draw attention. Sounds like a perfect colour for an emotional and ambitious Sith.

Blue and green on the other side are more calming. Green is pleasing to our senses, and we tend to be more productive while working in a blue environment. Dark blue colour tends to be cold and devoid of sympathy though. Sounds like a good fit for an emotionless and balanced Jedi.

As far as I have been able to make out the colours are the traditional ones for jedi and sith, though sith inquisitor gets a purple one, as for the colours you can get towards the higher levels they haven't released yet whether you can eventually get the other factions colours, if you can I would hope it would be difficult to achieve, perhaps through story choice.

Can't wait to find out.

Doesn't every one that pre orders get a colour stone that let's you select the colour of your lightsabers and laser blasts?

One question - it seems SWTOR is set a few thousand years before the events in the films ... but then why is technology and design virtually unchanged over that period?

It is set a few thousand years before the film events due to the original Kotor storylines on the xbox/pc a few years ago.

"The decision to set the game four thousand years before Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was one of the first details about the game made known. LucasArts gave BioWare a choice of settings for the game. "LucasArts came to us and said that we could do an Episode II game," BioWare CEO Raymond Muzyka said. "Or LucasArts said we could go 4,000 years back, which is a period that's hardly been covered before." BioWare chose to set the game four thousand years before the films as it gave them greater creative freedom"

Sure, I get that, but I would have thought that in 4000 years they would have changed the design of their space craft a bit more or built a better lightsaber.

I remember I read some kind of answer about your observation from the developers, Arawn, even if I cannot find the link.
Essentially they were offering two reasons for that:

1. Star Wars is science fiction, but it is also in some way fantasy (i.e.: the heroic inspiration, the knighthood theme, the Force, the presence of Princesses, etc.). Fantasy tends to offer more timeless settings, where power doesn't grow essentialy with time and progress, but it's rather linked to great/heroic figures, often living in the past.

2. People will flock to the game asking and desiring for the experience they had watching the movies, so it has been their commitment to offer the most similar experience possible in terms of visuals, sounds, music, etc.

Honestly I have to say that I largely agree with them, even if it may be less "realistic" in a sense...

Yup, I guess that's right, I would feel a little cheated if I didn't get a lightsaber :)

It is your destiny.

Funny they should say the time period is undeveloped. Dark Horse Comics spent years making comics in this time period, developing the Republic/Sith war, and the post-movie novels treat this as canon.

The lack of technology jump was very noticeable though, as you say. Dark Horse did their own prequel set during the Great Hyperspace War and as I recall lightsabers had cords thay linked them to external power packs.

So the early lightsaber wielding Jedi looked like a ghostbuster!

Peckishness is the path to the Dark Side.

Peckishness leads to hunger. Hunger leads to tummy rumbling. Tummy rumbling leads to cookies.

Muah hah hah ...

Happy Halloween :)

As I've done on the blue side post, here's the same for the red side:

I've added the latest applicants, so if you applied, it should all be in order now. Here is the current situation with Elders on the red side. We still need 3 more to pre-order before we can be deployed. Blue side only needs one more.
