Post subject: Friday Night Run: Molten Core - 4th March 9PM Game Time
PostPosted: Tue Mar 01, 2011 8:16 pm
This Friday's guild run will be the great grand daddy of them all, the place where Ragnaros got his first gig, Molten Core. The run is open to all characters level 60 and above. For those who don't know, the maximum size of the raid is 40 people, with 10 or more guildies required for the guild achievement. If you want to come along and you have a 60+ toon, I'd say we'll have room for you.

The instance is pretty easy these days for a group of high-level characters. I'll aim to bring my mage as he doesn't have the achievement yet, but if we need a tank or healer I'll bring my druid.

Attunement:

There is an attunement for Molten Core that allows you to teleport from near the entrance of Blackrock Depths. I'll be looking to do the attunement this evening on my mage (I can't remember if he has it). Judging from Wowhead it looks pretty easy, especially with the new mole machine teleporters. You do not need the attunement to enter Molten Core, but having it saves you running through BRD or relying on there being a warlock in the raid.

If anyone has an attuned warlock they would like to bring along or even just park near the entrance for summoning purposes, that would be especially helpful. Please let us know if you do.

Loot:

Molten Core drops level 60 epics and tier 1 gear. If you can use it, you can roll for it.

There is a small chance that a legendary might drop. These legendaries start fairly expensive quest chains that lead to creating Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros and Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker. If you're going to roll on these items, it might be worth checking out what's involved in making them first.

There is a guild achievement for getting the legendaries. I have no idea if the Elders have it, but it would certainly be nice.

Hunters:

I'm pretty sure I've seen someone tame a core hound. Just sayin'.

I am assuming this is a Horde event because I can see it on the Horde Elders calendar?

Providing we can start promptly, I can attend this event with Coaltar (85 Hunter) as DPS. I am attuned to the dungeon already. I will have a firm finishing time of 22:45 game time so I would really appreciate a prompt start.

I ran out of game time and was planning to take a little break but this sounds rather tempting. Lahu is lvl 75 and can DPS or tank (feral druid). Probably haven't done the attunement yet. Is that recommended for everyone? What would be the starting time more or less?

Depending on what real life (tm) throws at me I'll come on Vanija for some extra tasty heals and bubbles.

I've been a regular for the first couple of weeks, but this specific Friday might have some rather unpleasant business to attend to in real life (I hope it goes away before......but you never know), so if I'm online I can probably join in. If I'm not online you shouldn't wait for me.

@Coaltar: Yep, this is a Horde run. I don't have any Alliance toons on this server and the subject length for these posts is rather short.

If we have a tank, healer and dps bunny, we'll start at 9PM sharpish. People can straggle in later if they want, I don't see any problem with that. If you want to come along but then need to leave at 22:45, that's fine too. We're certainly not a You Must Participate kind of guild.

@Lahu: Probably best if you dps. If we have a level 85 tank with us you won't be able to compete. I don't think going through MC with a single tank is a problem.

It's best to be attuned and it really doesn't take long. I'll try to log on 30 minutes early in case anyone needs attuning, but 9pm game time is usually the earliest I can get on. I'm not going to be on much this week as I have a bit of RSI happening in my right hand. If you do see me online, feel free to give me a nudge asking for an attunement run. It's a cinch.

@Vanija: No worries on not being certain for this Friday. It'd be great to have you along but RL comes first. Feel free to put yourself down as tentative, or only show up for part of the raid as RL permits.

I did the attunement last night. Here is a helpful video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XORQbmMFQDU

It's very quick if mob level is not a problem. Especially if you can fly to the quest giver. Make sure to turn on low-level quests because he can be hard to find.

I parked Lahu just inside the entrance of Blackrock Mountain, and except if something unpredictable happens, I should be there at 9pm to dish out some kitty combos!

Seven Elders entered. (One Elder left when visitors arrived.) Six Elders stood to face Ragnaros the Firelord, deep in the Hallowed Core.

Thank you everyone who came along. We didn't have enough people for the guild achievement, unfortunately, but we certainly had a few personal achievements. It was a great little run and we went through the entire place in an hour.

A few people indicated interest in TBC raids in the future, but that Friday night doesn't work too well. Are Saturday or Sunday nights a good time for retro raids?

Weekends are normally good for me so I'd manage if more were planned then ;)

Who'd be popular in RL? Imagine people actually coming to my house expecting to see me face to face! They should have IMed :P

Glad you guys had fun without me .. do we need lots more people on the runs to get the achievements?

For the guild achievements we need:
10 for 40-man raids like Molten Core and Blackwing Lair.
8 for 25-man raids like Gruul, Magtheridon and The Battle of Mount Hyjal.
8 for 10-man raids like Karazhan.

Gruul and Magtheridon are both quick ones. If people are interested we could give them a try. Feel free to suggest a night, otherwise I'll just post another run and see how we do.

It was a fun run, glad I could make it. I definitely want to bring Abigorwyn to that level as well (now around 43) since tier 2 sets drop there and the warlock one looks really cool. And of course just to have another good reason to have fun with you guys :D
