 Post subject: Mouse-over macros

Last friday while wAiting for a random dungeon to pop for an alt group we got to talk about healing and I mentioned some of the techniques I use, and was asked for a bit more detail - so I promised to write up a forum post, and here it is.

The most important aspect I have is, that I use mouse-over macros.

Explained in short, using a mouse-over macro will make the spell you cast go to the person over which you hover your mouse-pointer.....without need to target that person first.
You can mouse-over the player character, the name-plate or the unit frame in the raid- or party frames of your choice
This shaves of valuable microseconds otherwise used to click to target.

Mouse-over macros must however be bound to a key.....you can't hover over a target and then click to cast as spell.

If you are unfamiliar with how to make a macro you can go here to read up on it http://www.wowwiki.com/HOWTO:_Make_a_Macro

A simple mouse-over macro looks like this:

#showtooltip Flash Heal
/cast [target=mouseover] Flash Heal

Just choose the spell of you choice - bind it to a key and you're rocking.

My personal secret is, that I've bound several of those macros to my mouse-wheel.......that way I have 8 spells at a fingertip for quick casting via mouse-over macros.

Mouse-wheel up, mouse-wheel down
Shift + Mouse-wheel up, shift + mouse-wheel down
CTRL + Mouse-wheel up, CTRL + mouse-wheel down
ALT + Mouse-wheel up, ALT + mouse-wheel down

Furthermore I'm using Clique and Grid for click casting meaning, that I can also cast sells just by clicking on a character in my raid/party that's further 8 quck accesible spells just by clicking on a player:

Left click, Right click
Shift + Left click, shift +Right click
CTRL + Left click, CTRL + Right click
ALT + Left click, ALT + Right click

This was obviously just the abstract of what I've done, so if you found it interesting and have questions/commments, feel free to reply in the thread.

You can't always get what you want
But if you try; sometimes you might find
You get what you need

Thanks for explaining the mouse-over macros! It sounds very handy, I'll have to experiment with them with my little resto shaman. :-)

Alliance: Suzhara (gnome warlock (main)), Bellaana (night elf death knight), Veylka (dwarf paladin), Khurram (draenei shaman),
Horde: Suraj (troll hunter), Arhuanee (goblin priest), Gyroka (orc rogue), Thianna (tauren druid)

I can see this becoming very handy for pulling stray mobs for Magryf while tanking.

Such as:

#showtooltip Hand of Reckoning
/cast [target=mouseover] Hand of Reckoning

If a mob breaks aggro I can use that to re-pull him.

Maybe adding:

for RP purposes.

I'll have to read up on WoW Macros.
