Hi,

Just to let you know, Alesh [A] has now learnt the recipe Vial of the Sands.

This allows you to transform into the fabulous Sandstone Drake mount.

I am very happy to make this for anyone if they supply the mats.

The mats are as follows (warning for those of a nervous disposition ... they are a bit on the steep side so make sure you are sitting comfortably and have a stiff drink to hand before you read on):

Requires
Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial x 1
Sands of Time x 8
Truegold x 12
Flask of the Winds x 8
Flask of Titanic Strength x 8
Deepstone Oil x 8

The Pyrium-Laced Crystaline Vial and the Sands of Time are vendor items purchased from Yasmin in Uldum. She is the in-keeper in the top left hand corner of the Uldum map at cords 26.65 7.26.

The Pyrium-Laced Crystaline Vial sells for 5,000 gold and the Sands of Time sell for 3,000 gold each. So that is 29,000 in gold straight away and no way to get them apart from buying them from that vendor.

The good news for Hordies is that If you want to save 5,800 gold making this mount use a Goblin because its racial means that you will receive a 20% discount on the items, meaning you "only" pay 23,200 gold for the Pyrium-Laced Crystalline Vial and the eight Sands of Time. I think that the Guild discount works too, but we have not got to that level yet.

As for the rest of the mats you are looking at:

• 12 x Truegold
===== (3 x Pyrium bars) x 12 = 36 Pyrium Bars*
===== (10 x Volatile Air) x 12 = 120 Volatile Air
===== (10 x Volatile Fire) x 12 = 120 Volatile Fire
===== (10 x Volatile Water) x 12 = 120 Volatile Water
• 8 x Flask of the Winds
===== (8 x Volatile Life) x 8 = 64 Volatile Life
===== (8 x Azshara’s Veil) x 8 = 64 Azshara’s Veil
===== (8 x Whiptail) x 8 = 64 Whiptail
===== (1 x Crystal Vial) x 8 = 8 Crystal Vial
• 8 x Flask of Titanic Strength
===== (8x Volatile Life) x 8 = 64 Volatile Life
===== (8 x Cinderbloom) x 8 = 64 Cinderbloom
===== (8 x Whiptail) x 8 = 64 Whiptail
===== (1 x Crystal Vial) x 8 = 8 Crystal Vial
• 8 x Deepstone Oil
===== (1 x Albino Cavefish) x 8 = 8 Albino Cavefish

*Pyrium Bars can be transmuted from 1 x Elementium Bar and 1 x Volatile Earth

That is currently about another 15,000 gold on the AH.

That makes a grand total just for the mats of 44,000 gold for everyone apart from Goblins

I am very happy to craft all the above from the raw mats to save you money, but please note that due to the 24hr cooldown it will take 24 days to make the Truegold from scratch.

I have no idea what the crafting mark-up is for all that, but naturally I will not charge Guildies for that.

For anyone who is interested in the getting the recipe for themselves, here is what I did.

At the end of WoTLK Alesh was maxed out on skinning and leatherworking but I saw in the pre-Cata news that an Alchemy recipe would allow you to turn into a dragon that could carry passengers. Alesh, being a shapeshifter, had to have that. So, first I changed professions and maxed out Herbalism and Alchemy.

When Cata arrived I learnt that was not quite enough. Apart from needing to be 525 Alchemy you also had to find the recipe.

The recipe drops from canopic jars which are common Uldum Archaeology finds. So, you also need to max out Archaeology.

That is not all, because a canopic jar is only one of 13 possible random Tol'Vir archaeology items and you only have an estimated 20% chance each jar to find the recipe. To top that off, you only have a maximum 15% chance of having an Uldum digsite up in Kalimdor. That all makes for a lot of Archaeology.

In total I made almost 300 archaeology items, 82 of them unique, 15 of them rare and 6 canopic jars before I found the recipe.

That does not count the cost in re-speccing from leatherworking and skinning.

All in all, bloody stupid ... especially as I did not bother to check that the vendor mats alone cost 29,000 gold :)

It will be a little while before I can aford the vendor mats so do not expect to see me flying around as a dragon just yet :)

Congratulations, I know you worked hard for this and that is probably an understatement. If there's anything I can do to help you get that shapeshift quicker let me know, fishing for volatile fire for example :)

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it, but unfortunately it is the 29,000 gold I need as I already have all the other mats.

I think I'll have to prostitute myself on the realm forum :)

Wow Arawn! Really well done! You're the first Elder to achieve that, which we all dream of. Or at least I have dreamt of it ever since I heard about this mount! What a huge endeavour this has been, and so much work still ahead!

Are the goblin bought items transferable or do they bound upon buying?

Thanks all.

The vendor sold items are not currently showing as BOP so you can buy them and send them to anyone.

So, in theory, you can just park a Goblin at Yasmin and send it gold to buy the items at a discount and then the Goblin can post them to whoever.

If you are Ally it is inefficient to send cash across the neutral AH as the AH takes a 15% cut but , with some inter-guild coordination, you can send high value items across the neutral AH for 1 copper and then post them to a bank alt to auction and raise cash on the hordie side that way to send to the Gobbo parked at Yasmin. Then you send the vendored items back across the neutral AH for 1 copper. DISCLAIMER: I have not tried that so it might not work in practise ...

Congrats, Arawn! I hope you're able to make it for yourself soon! :D

Looking at all the things you need for the mount, I think it's going to take a loooooooong time until I'm anywhere near of having it. Maybe some day in the distant future. ;)

Hi, just to let you know, I have been checking on the AH and (in case you did not know this already) the price for raw Alchemy mats is generally a lot more expensive than the price of the finished potion/flask etc. The price of the volatile life alone is often more expensive than the finished flask.

The only exception is Truegld which is about 50 g more expensive than its mats ... but then it has a 24hr cooldown.

I suspect the reason for the cost of the raw volatile materials is that tailors need 30 of each volatile to make a dreamcloth every 7 days

Thanks for posting this info Arawn :)

I've been digging without sucess so far on finding the recipe (9 canoic jars so far!) but I appreciate you posting the mats needed for the mount, so i can farm them on my alts when i take a break from digging

I've just totalled up how much stuff I've dug out of the ground!

17 rares
399 other items (includes 34 Tol'vir atrifacts)

If it wasnt for the fact I levelled 80-85 just doing archi I'd be round the bend by now!
